YAMA YOGA

Compiled by the Sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras, the Eight Limbs of Raja or Royal Yoga are a progressive series of steps to purify the body and mind, ultimately leading the yogi to complete enlightenment. The first, and perhaps most important of these limbs is the Yamas. These are the ideals that Yama Yoga strives practice daily.

The Yamas are five ethical codes of behavior to be practiced in word, thought and deed:

Ahimsa – non-violence
Satyam – truthfulness
Brahmacharya – moderation in all things (control of all senses)
Asteya – non-stealing
Aparigraha – non-greed

Since 2005, Yama Yoga has been providing a safe, welcoming environment for yogis to cultivate and expand their practice.

ASHTANGA VINYASA YOGA

The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yogacodified and popularized by K. Pattabhi Joisduring the 20th century which is often  promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga. Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches, of which asana or physical yoga posture is merely one branch, breath or pranayama is another. Both Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois, his grandson, encourage practice of Ashtanga Yoga – all eight limbs. The first two limbs – Yamas and Niyamas – are given special emphasis to be practiced in conjunction with the 3rd and 4th limbs (asana and pranayama).

There are regular batches of Yoga Conducted in our Yoga Studio.
